The history of a new musical as it comes to be…

Locations Revisited

It’s interesting to me how without my even trying, places from past are creeping into the play. A character I was writing just ended up at the Bowl (and not the Bowl as in THE Rosebowl, as in pizza and rock bands in the early 90s – that’s another location from my past). The bowl (named by myself and a few friends) is a rock formation on Mt. Tolmie in Victoria where we used to hang out after prep. It had a wonderful view, looking west out over the city, with the Sooke Hills in the distance.  I have, of course, moved it a few miles up the Malahat to somewhere near Duncan. I haven’t thought about the place for years but there it was…a perfect location. We’ll have to see how well it travels on a plane over to Scotland in the summer. I’m sure it weighs a few tens of thousands of tonnes.
